A Message Of Jubilee

This is the 500th edition of 4th Day Letters. It is a message of jubilee. Jubilant describes a feeling of happiness. One who is jubilant rejoices and jumps for joy. The fact that God has allowed me to write 500 4th Day letters makes me jubilant. I sincerely hope that today’s message will leave you jubilant as well. Please set aside a few minutes to read this extremely important message. Click to read more.
In the fall of 2011, God put it on my heart to write one inspirational message to fifteen men that I attended church with. I assumed then, that God was calling me to a one-time task. Little did I know that I would write every week for the next 500 weeks. Although this started as a message for the fifteen, it has become an ecumenical message read by Christians of countless denominations on nearly every continent. None of this could have been possible without the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
With this 500th letter, I have written approximately 425,000 words. To put this in perspective, that’s about the same number of words as Gone with the Wind, almost as many as War and Peace and twice as many as Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment. Finally, for context, the New Testament has about 184,000 words and the full Bible has nearly 700,000. Prior to God’s prompting in 2011, I had written very little. Trust me when I say that I am jubilant in knowing the Holy Spirit has guided my efforts.
After all of these words you might ask, “Is there a central theme?” The answer is yes! It just so happens that the theme allegorically ties into the concept of Jubilee. A Year of Jubilee came every 50 years. It was a year dedicated to God. During a jubilee year, people were released from their debts, slaves were set free, and property was returned to those who owned it (Leviticus 25:1-13).
This 500th 4th Day Letter is really a super jubilee edition (10X50). How fitting that this 500th letter, and the purpose for which Broken Door Ministries was formed, symbolically tie to the meaning of a Jubilee year. As stated above, God set aside a Jubilee year as a year where debtors and slaves were released from their bondage. This ministry has always been dedicated to spreading the good news that everyone broken by sin and wounded by the world has been set free by Jesus Christ.
Leviticus 25:10 states, “You shall proclaim liberty in the land for all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you, when each of you shall return to your own property, each of you to your own family.” In other words, A year of jubilee was a year of restoration.
Over these past eight weeks, I tried to carefully lay out the essence of what Broken Door Ministries is all about. I did my best to articulate my understanding of God’s desire for each of us as it pertains to our role in His Kingdom.
We began this series with this question, “Why did God make me?” He created us to know, love, and serve Him. One of the ways we serve Him, is by helping to grow His Kingdom by loving others and bringing them to Christ. I wrote about God’s mercy, which I perceive to be our greatest blessing. I also put forth the importance of acknowledging our need to be saved.
We continued by taking an in-depth look at the cause of our wounds and brokenness, and we acknowledged that most of us hide behind false masks. We discovered that in almost every group interaction there are three possible personality types. At different times and in different setting we are all inhibitors, encouragers, or ignorers. Finally, last week we learned that God is calling us to go forth in a “sea of purple” to encourage others to open up about the sins and wounds hidden on their “purple paper”.
Looking forward to what’s lies ahead, I have three books in the works and hopefully many more 4th Day Letters to write. Perhaps one day I’ll have the opportunity to come to your church to share in person. Please consider inviting me to put on a retreat.
This ministry was birthed when God gave me these words to share, “If you want to be healed, you have to tell someone you are broken.” I have remained faithful to writing and speaking about this message ever since. I will continue to do so as long as the Lord allows me. Please join me in sharing this vitally important message.
Thousands of readers have written to me and hundreds of people have come up to me at retreats to share the “secrets” written on their purple papers. For the first time in their life, they found the strength to break the chains of pride and shame. By doing this, their journey to liberty and restoration through Jesus began. Together, you and I can go out to share the healing message of Jesus Christ with many more people. What could possibly be more jubilant than that!
Thank you for your continued readership. May God’s blessing be with you.
Heavenly Father I am humbled that you have called me, a broken door, to spread the news of your Son’s mercy and love. The world is filled with hurting people. Grant me the strength to never grow weary and the perseverance to never give up. In Jesus name I pray. Amen!
