Be The Door
I began writing 4th Day Letters in 2011. Since then there has only been one time that the Holy Spirit placed the topic on my heart in a parable. I named it The Parable of the Broken Door and I wrote it on October 2, 2012. I didn’t know at that time just how powerful this parable would become, nor did I know that it would lead to the formation of Broken Door Ministries and to the book The Broken Door. When I travel around the country offering talks and all day retreats to various churches and Christian gatherings, God continues to bring about dramatic healing in the lives of the attendees through the underlying message of this parable.
If you have not yet read this parable or if you have forgotten it, it might be helpful to take just a moment at read it now. The Parable Of The Broken Door.
This parable attempts to make two very key points. First, it makes the point that Jesus is the PERFECT DOOR. We read this in John 10:9: “I am the gate. Whoever enters through me will be saved…..” Reading on a little further we read this in John 14:6 “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Knowing that Jesus is the perfect and only door to the Father, leads us to the second and challenging point. You and I are called, yes even in our broken human condition, to BE THE DOOR through which others can enter to encounter and discover Jesus Christ. Our slogan for this ministry is: I’m broken, you’re broken, HE’s not, let’s talk. In other words, we are called to the realization that we are all broken in some way on this human journey and Jesus’ mercy and forgiveness is the good news that we need to share with others so that together we can all enter through Him into everlasting life with the Father.
Have you ever thought of yourself as a door? If you are in fact a door, and not just any door, but the door through which others should be able to enter to discover Jesus, what will they find when they enter through you?
Let’s Make A Deal was a television game which originated 1963. It was co-produced and hosted by Monty Hall. Monty made the contestants choose between three doors. Did they want what was behind door number one, door number two or door number three? When the contestants made their choice and chose a door with a good prize, Monty would open up one of the remaining two doors and show the contestant a prize of little or no value. Finally he would offer the contestant the opportunity to trade what they had already won, the proverbial bird in hand, for what was still hidden behind the remaining door, the proverbial two in the bush.
This decision of, “should I or should I not switch doors,” is what gave the show its suspense. It eventually led to a concept now known as the Monty Hall Problem, which is a mathematical expression which addresses the statistical probability of having a positive outcome when a contestant elects the final door.
There is no suspense about the door of Jesus Christ. We know because He told us that He was the door to the Father. The suspense lies with us. What will someone discover if they choose us as a door in which to enter? Will they discover Christ inside?
We cannot and must not wait to become unbroken before we begin to lead others to Christ. The reality is this, it is through our brokenness that we realize our very dependence on Jesus for His mercy and forgiveness. This is the very message that we must tell others about. This is why we have chosen a new short phrase that we are encouraging everyone to live by and to promote. That phrase is this: BE THE DOOR™!
So I pose this question to all of us: If someone is given the choice, just like in the show Let’s Make a Deal, and we are one of the doors they have the opportunity to choose from, when we as the door are opened, will they be excited or disappointed with what they find inside? Will they discover JESUS inside of us?
Father your Son Jesus is our door to eternal life with you. Help us to BE THE DOOR for others to your SON!

Dave:
God be with you!
BE THE DOOR
Great message. Thank you for the continual blessing you are to my life through your faith and sharing. Indeed….you’ve been the door…I’d say you’re a large commercial-size overhead door…opening wide to let many of us encounter Christ.
Joe
Thank you for those very kind words. May God’s blessing be always upon you.
BE THE DOOR
Touched my heart today, thank you.
Tom, I am happy for you. God bless!
