Peace On Earth

Today is Tuesday December 22, (my youngest son’s 25th birthday by the way) and we are just three days from Christmas. This is my final 4thdayletter prior to Christmas Day. I want to express my sincerest hope that you may experience a very blessed Christmas and my hope that you may be touched by an inner peace that is rarely found in this world and only available to us through the grace of the one we call Emanuel, Jesus Christ the Prince of Peace.

Three years ago I shared with you my favorite Christmas song, “Touch Hands on Christmas Morning” which contained these lyrics: “Pray that with tomorrow the plow will bury the sword.” Perhaps this is the universal wish of all Christians on Christmas day. Our old world sure could stand a giant dose of peace. This is the time of year for all of us to pray for global world peace, especially with the violence and terrorism that threatens all of us. Today with this email I also want to encourage you to pray for inner peace. There are so many people around the world dealing with every kind of imaginable problem. Everyday struggles like grief, health issues, loneliness, broken relationships, fractured families, lack of food or lack of adequate shelter and clothing can combine to steal the inner sense of peace all human beings so desperately desire.

Often this lack of inner peace leads people to be scared and isolated. Christmas for some people can seem to compound their fears and problems. If you are feeling God’s blessings this week, take time to give thanks but also take a moment to offer a prayer for those who are hurting. Jesus is the reason for the season as they say and Jesus is also the source of healing and comfort.Like I said earlier,it was three years ago that I shared my favorite Christmas song. This year, I would like to share my wife’s favorite Christmas song with you. The song is “Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy” and it is a Christmas song performed by David Bowie and Bing Crosby.According to Wikipedia, the track was recorded on September 11, 1977 for Crosby’s then-upcoming television special, Bing Crosby’s Merrie Olde Christmas. The two singers had not met prior to the recording; they made for an interesting pair. They had a wide disparity of both age, and genre of music talent. Reportedly, these two performed the song after less than an hour of rehearsal. Sadly, Crosby died just five weeks after recording the special and before it aired. This unique combination of Crosby the cardigan-clad singer known for “White Christmas” and Bowie a hard rocker made for a power Christmas song.Interspersed with the traditional words from “Little Drummer Boy” sung by Crosby, Bowie sang these lyrics:

Peace on Earth, can it be
Every child must be made aware
Every child must be made to care
Care enough for his fellow man
To give all the love that he can
I pray my wish will come true
For my child and your child too
He’ll see the day of glory
See the day when men of good will
Live in peace, live in peace again
Peace on Earth, can it be
Can it be

From Broken Door Ministries, 4thdayletters.com, my entire family and Betsy and I, we wish you all a Merry Christmas! I pray that on this Christmas day all of mankind will experience a day of global world peace and each individual will experience a day of inner peace that only our Lord Jesus Christ can bring.May the peace of the Christ Child be with you now and forever, amen! MERRY CHRISTMAS
