The Gift of the Holy Spirit
Beginning back at Holy Week and then Easter itself we read accounts about Christ’s unselfish pouring out of His love for the forgiveness of our sins. Then throughout the Easter Season, in the stories from the Acts of the Apostles, we see examples of the early Christians as they receive the Gospel news of Jesus’ death and resurrection. We are inspired and challenged by how their lives were changed as they accepted Jesus and then gave themselves to spreadingthe Gospel message.
Then over these past two weeks we have read about Christ’s ascension and then His breathing of the Holy Spirit onto the apostles at Pentecost (John 20: 19-23).
My friends, Jesus has breathed the gift of the Holy Spirit on us as well. Yes, Jesus has ascended, but with the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit He has called us into action. Empowered with the Holy Spirit we are called to continue to spread the good news of the Gospel. Our faith in Jesus and our call to action is a unique and incredible gift. It is a gift that the more we give it away the more we gain. As we share Christ’s love with others we experience His love for us in a deeper way.
We are all so blessed! Let’s go out, filled with the Holy Spirit, and share the gift of our faith and the love of Jesus Christ with someone new today! Amen.
