We All Need An Extra Boost

Have you ever ridden an e-bike?  Riding a traditional bike can sometimes be difficult, especially when going uphill. Regardless of your age or expertise, an e-bike might be just the thing for you. The electric motor on an e-bike gives the rider a boost of propulsion when pedaling becomes difficult. In much the same way, we often need a boost when life becomes challenging. Find out how to get your needed boost. Please read more.

I have always enjoyed riding a bike. For years, my wife and I have had traditional 10 speed bikes. She, however, has not shared my enthusiasm for riding. Whenever we would ride, she would have a hard time keeping up with my pace. She also struggled when riding her bike up a steep incline or going a long distance. All of that changed two years ago when we bought her a new e-bike. After riding hers once, I decided that I needed one too. They make bike riding easy and fun. Now we love to ride together.

What exactly is an e-bike? At first glance it looks much like a regular bicycle. It has 2 wheels, a handlebar, a seat, pedals, and a chain. But is has a few other things that give a boost that you might not even notice. E-bikes have a rechargeable electric battery and a very inconspicuous electric motor.

Just like a regular bike, an e-bike must be pedaled. However, when you need help to conquer hills, keep up with road traffic, keep up with your riding partner, go a long distance, or carry a heavy load in your basket, the electric motor gives you that boost of power to make the ride a breeze.

As you pedal, the power kicks in and exponentially multiplies your effort. Even when your legs are exhausted, with just a minor amount of effort on your part, the motor does all of the hard work. The electric power gives you that added propulsion to keep going without getting tired or breaking a sweat.

The electric motor boosts your effort. The real work is not being done by you, instead it is being done by the power of the battery and motor. Isn’t that just how it is with our spiritual life. Life can be difficult and challenging at times. When this happens, we do not have to do the heavy lifting. Jesus does that for us. Proverbs 3:5-6 states, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, on your own intelligence do not rely.” We must have complete trust in the Lord to get us through the difficulties of life.

As we get older, riding a bike can become difficult. Similarly, as we get older, life itself becomes more difficult. We develop all types of aches and pains and illnesses. By the time we reach our 70s and 80s, we have likely witnessed the death of many of our friends and family members. We have watched our children struggle to make their way in life. E-bikes make it easier for older people to ride.  Trusting in God makes life easier. Isaiah 46:4 says, “Even to your old age I am he, even when your hair is gray I will carry you; I have done this, and I will lift you up, I will carry you to safety.”

Before having e-bikes, when the road ahead seemed too long and arduous, we would worry about having the stamina to complete our journey. Now, the e-bike motor assures us that we can make it home. In a similar way, when we see difficulties looming ahead in life, fear and anxiety often overtake us. Isaiah 41:10 tells us, “Do not fear: I am with you; do not be anxious: I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.”  Once again, we know we can turn to God for help.

Have you ever tried to pedal your bike up a steep hill? As you go higher and higher, pedaling becomes more difficult. Soon, you find yourself standing up to push down harder on the pedals. Eventually, when it is just too difficult to ride any further, you get off and push the bike up the hill. An e-bike changes this dynamic. It makes the otherwise insurmountable hill easier to climb.

Likewise, many Christians struggle to overcome addictions and habitual areas of sinfulness. Some get worn down by their seeming inability to break free from their addiction. Some give into despair when they fall again for the umpteenth time. In 1 Peter 5:7 it is written, “Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you,” and Psalms 34:18-19 states, “The righteous cry out, the LORD hears and he rescues them from all their afflictions. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted, saves those whose spirit is crushed.”

My friends, Jesus is the dependable battery and motor that never fails. He is that extra boost that can help you make it through the most difficult of situations. Cast yourself upon Him when you feel you can’t go on. Like a good shepherd, He will carry you on His shoulders to safety. You can make it through whatever difficulties you may be encountering right now, if you place your trust in the Lord.

Heavenly Father, I know I can do all things through your Son who strengthens me. Jesus is my everlasting battery. He is always ready to give me the extra boost I need. Help me to always depend on Him in my time of need. Amen!

Thanks brian, It’s good to know we have an e-Lord with us.
Another way to get up a steep hill is to zig-zag, which my spiritual journey seems to do often.
    God Bless.

Really enjoyed reading this, as I just bought a manual pedal mountain bike and my insurance bought me a gym membership. Trying to get the weight back off, regaining the physical discipline is as tough as regaining the spiritual discipline, but the rewards come from enduring the struggle!
I didn’t know you enjoyed cycling, maybe we can ride together, next time I’m back around, if we’re both around……

Congratulations on the bike and gym membership. Keep up both your physical and spiritual discipline. Both take hard work and dedication.
